First Blockbuster, Now DVD’s Failing In General
Netflix was attributed to the demise of Blockbuster, now the whole DVD industry has taken a 20% battering.
Purely digital movies might be taking over faster than we think, as the Digital Entertainment Group, which monitors DVD sales worldwide, found that DVD sales fell 20% in Q1 2011.
It also noted that home theatre sales worldwide fell 10%, and blames the “electronic sell-through”, ie iTunes and Netflix, for stealing their market.
In fact, iTunes sales grew 11% over in the same period, while video-on-demand is up 9%.
